My daughter Leaves for Turkey Tomorrow

This is the last family photo before Shannon departs for Turkey. We are getting ready right now to leave for the Airport. Are dad and mom ready for this? I have to tell you, as a parent, it’s both scary and wonderful to let your children spread their wings. We have spent our entire marriage teaching our children in the way that they should go….this is a defining moment for us. This is a defining moment for Shannon. We are both so very proud of the path she has taken, we are both so very proud of who she is as a person, we are both very proud of a girl that has grown into a woman. We are happy for her success,we are sad at the distance that there will be between us. But then, we are also happy at the closeness that we all share. God has blessed us with two very special girls, as well as each other.

May God bless each of you and your families in the coming New Year!

  • Yeah, we want them to spread their wings.  It’s just that sometimes we not so comfortable with how far they choose to spread them.  I sure Turkey will be quite an experience.

  • ryc: have you seen this? Complete Works of John Bunyan
I considered getting the 3 Volume Set – Works of John Bunyan, but I had some other books that needed to be read first lest I become only a ‘book collector’ rather than a book reader Now I have the whole set downloaded on my computer! Isn’t technology a wonderful thing!
Praying for you all now on your day of transition.

Prayers for you all, especially your daughter, as she prepares to spread her wings!

  • Greetings and blessings to you my brother.. and please know that our (my family) prayers are with you and yours and your daughter as she takes this great step in her life. I am assuming she will be stationed at the Air Base there.. to which I am a very fortunate to know several of the Chaplains. As a USAR Chaplain.. I have been through the base there many times.. and will probably be there many more in the future.

There will come a time when we will have to say the same to our son. He is currently majoring in Missionary Aviation at Liberty University and will be serving with either JAARS or MAF once he completes all of his training.

Be blessed and remain strong in the Lord… for His hand is upon her.

    In the Masters Service,

  • Independently dependent right. That is what Steve said, we need to raise our children to be independently dependent. I think it sounds alot easier to do then it actually is. I dread the day. I enjoyed actually meeting Shannon this weekend. I felt like I allready knew her from all the stories Kelly told me. She is in my prayers. And so are you and your family.

  • GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY..

  • Congradulations to both you and your daughter.

  • We’ve been to the airport to send our two oldest sons off… It never gets easy. The first one, I took him back to Canada and had to leave him there. The other passengers must have thought I was having a breakdown all the way to London. It was the hardest thing I had ever done. The second I said good-bye from here, and his dad accompanied him into his new life of independence. Whew…I have three more still at home, and our oldest has since returned home to Bangkok. My poor mother’s heart… our kids are brave to venture out into life far away from home, but moms are even more brave to let them go!
